What is Korima?

In 2012, Chris and Silas Colman, a father and son team, decided to start a new home building company.

From the beginning, they wanted to do more than just build a house to get a check. They had a goal to use their platform as a home builder to help children experiencing hunger and homelessness around the world.

Several years before they began building homes, they got involved with a non-profit that helped build an orphanage in the Copper Canyon region of Mexico. The Copper Canyon region is home to a group of indigenous people known as the Tarahumara.

For the most part, the Tarahumara live today in the same way they lived a hundred years ago. They do not rely on money to survive. The key to their survival as a culture is their generosity. This willingness to share what they have with each other is what they refer to as Korima.

Chris and Silas decided to name their company Copper Creek Builders and committed to donate $2,500 from the sale of every house to several non-profit organizations who are dedicated to building orphanages and caring for children in the Copper Canyon region and around the world. One of those organizations is the Alkare Foundation. Click below to learn more.
